In addition to sustainability, there is rising demand for transparency. In 2019, the Carbon Trust revealed that two-thirds of shoppers wanted to see carbon footprint labels on the products they buy. Hugh Jones, Managing Director, Advisory, the Carbon Trust, commented:
“This research aligns with the growth in corporate demand for product carbon footprinting and labelling that we have witnessed over the past year. [...] The sustained and high levels of consumer support for carbon labelling suggests that passing this information on to increasingly well-informed and climate-conscious consumers can also enhance a company's reputation and market share.”
A sustainable shopping solution.
To tackle this issue, I proposed a solution by designing a sustainable shopping app with a carbon footprint tracker. The app's goal is to educate and raise awareness while providing a feasible and practical solution to a significant business and consumer problem.
This app operates in three main parts:

Helping users discover local, environmentally-friendly brands.

Providing tips on reducing each user's daily carbon emissions through educational content.

Tracking and measuring each user's carbon emissions through a personalized CO2 tracker.
